STUBENMUSIK
IN DIE FERNE GETRÄUMT…
Bei meinen  Nachforschungen über die Zither stieß ich auf das Wort Stubenmusik, welches ich bis dahin noch nicht kannte und wurde außerdem daran erinnert, dass ich auf  meinen Reisen nach Asien und Afrika  sehr viel Zithermusik gehört habe. Diverse Arten  der
asiatischen Wölbbrettzithern sowie  verschiedene afrikanische Formen  sind mir vertrauter als die zentraleuropäische Version der Zither.
Da kam mir der Satz „ warum in die Ferne schweifen, wenn das Gute liegt so nah…“ in den Sinn und genau das tut der Zitherspieler in meinem Stück eben auch nicht. Oder doch? Das Gute, in diesem Fall die Zither liegt immerhin vor ihm, allerdings schweift er ständig in die Ferne, er produziert Klänge, die zunächst  an die überseeischen  Zithern erinnern  und schweift schließlich völlig ab und gerät in Klangwelten, deren Orte auf dieser Welt noch gefunden werden müssen.

 

PARLOUR MUSIC
DREAMING INTO THE DISTANCE...
During my investigations about the zither, I came across the word Stubenmusik (Parlour music), which I had not known until then, and it reminded me of the fact that I had heard a lot of zither music on my journeys to Asia and Africa. I am more familiar with various kinds of the Asian curved board zither as well as some African forms than with the central European version of the zither.
Then I thought of the phrase “Why seek far afield when the good could not be any closer by…” and that is exactly what the zither player in my piece does not do. Or does he? After all, the good, in this case the zither is lying just in front of him but he keeps on seeking far afield, he produces sounds that remind us of the zithers from the overseas and eventually deviates completely, getting into worlds of sounds whose places on earth are still to be found.
