White Noise 'n Colours for Bass-Flute with Talkbox (2006)
Die Talkbox ist ein Gerät, welches insbesondere von  Rockgitarristen wie Jeff  Beck in den 60iger Jahren verwendet wurde. Der E-Gitarrenklang  wird durch einen  Schlauch in die Mundhöhle des Spielers geleitet und durch Veränderung der Mundhöhle in seinen  klanglichen Strukturen modifiziert. In White Noise’n Coulours verwende ich die Talkbox, um Einspielungen in das Flötenrohr zu leiten, die dann mit den Mitteln der Flöte verändert werden…
Einerseits greife ich in diesem Stück eine uralte Instrumentenkombination auf, nämlich Drums and Pipes. Ein  Wirbel auf einer Snaredrum ist dem weißen Rauschen sehr nahe und ein Großteil der Einspielungen in die Flöte besteht aus eben diesem Wirbel und ähnlichen Perkussionsklängen. Durch kurzes Öffnen und Schließen der Klappen glaubt man Trommelschläge zu hören, nur verändert jede Klappe auch die Klangfarbe der „Trommel“.
Andererseits behandele ich das weiße Rauschen ähnlich wie ein Maler seine weiße Leinwand und trage im Verlauf des Stückes Farbe auf.

 

WHITE NOISE ‘N COLOURS FOR BASS-FLUTE WITH TALKBOX (2006)
A talk box is a device that was mainly used in the sixties by rock guitarists such as Jeff Beck. The sound of the e-guitar is transferred to the player’s oral cavity via a hose and modified in its sound structures through alterations of the oral cavity. In White Noise ‘n Colours I use a talk box to channel recordings into the body of the flute and alter them with the means of the flute.
On one hand I am using an ancient combination of instruments in this piece: Drums and Pipes. A role on a snare drum approximates white noise and the majority of the recordings transferred into the flute consist of a drum roll like that and similar percussion sounds. When the flaps are opened and closed quickly, you will think you are hearing drumbeats, but each different flap changes the tone colour of the “drum”.
On the other hand I am treating the white noise in a similar way that a painter treats a white canvas: I am applying colours in the course of the piece.
